When one in four women of reproductive age are on anti-depressants you have to ask the question why? When suicide is now the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44 you have look beyond individual pathology and into the broader societal climate. You have to ask are we, as a society, sick?
The late philosopher J. Krishnamurti said it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
This blog is my attempt to go beyond “adjusting” and dig deeper to explore the Truth about Mental Health. To go beyond the individual brain and genetic predispositions and into the realm of holistic health, transpersonal psychology , ecopsychology and empowerment.
Here I will weave my own story, challenges and insights with science, self-help and consciousness. I will look at evidence-based holistic psychiatry such as the work of Dr Kelly Brogan and therapies which challenge conventional thinking, .. (the type of thinking that contributed to our current environmental crisis).
When collectively as a society we’re facing climate change, rising sea levels and potentially our own extinction as a species it’s time to change our ways. Wellness needs to be cultivated with the greater context in mind. Band-aid treatments and reductionist science isn’t going to fix things. We have to listen to the collective unconscious inside each one of us and bring it to the surface.
